Kevin Loewen

Kevin Loewen is a LEED certified Canadian architect who established his practice 701 architecture inc. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 2007. He allows culture and structure in conjunction with environmental concerns to inform and guide his designs and built form. Some current projects under development include a 150 condominium unit project in the Waverly West development, a 100 condominium unit development project in downtown Winnipeg and a 40,000 square foot addition to an industrial plant.

Loewen has worked at the highest levels of design in disciplines of architecture, engineering and construction management for the past 15 years. Upon completion of his Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree from the University of Manitoba in 1992, his experience continued on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Here he worked for 5 years with many companies and firms as an architectural technologist. From designing earthquake relief housing in Kobe, Japan with a pre-manufactured housing company in Cobble Hill, B.C. to various projects for architectural firms in Victoria, B.C. Loewen continued his technical training for 3 years in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Here the experience continued with both an architecture firm and an engineering firm,providing a knowledge base from the structural, mechanical and electrical consultant perspectives.

Loewen’s edification continued by obtaining his Masters degree in the Faculty of Architecture at Dalhousie University in 2003. Here, he achieved a graduate scholarship for his studies and received the R.A.I.C. honour roll, the A.I.A. Henry Adams medal, and The Adjeleian Aesthetics in Structures award upon graduation.

He began his internship process with the Manitoba Association of Architects while working with two architectural firms in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was able to utilize his technical background combined with his design education on two major projects, the Esplanade Riel pedestrian suspension bridge and the St. Boniface Hospital atrium and skylight addition, with G.P.P. architect.e.s. Loewen than continued his internship with the firm of Stantec Architecture and was a project manager on two residential condominium projects and was an architectural technologist on the new Winnipeg International Airport. He has also entered three design competitions. The Palisades Glacial Mountain Hut competition in California, U.S.A., the City Crossing competition in Winnipeg, Manitoba and the Southbank competition in Africa. Loewen then broadened his experience by becoming the construction – project manager for the Pictou Landing First Nations Health Centre in Nova Scotia in 2005.
